Abruzzo nature SIC (Common Interest Site) Serra di Rocca Chiarano and Monte Greco - Castel di Sangro The site comprises the Monte Greco, the highest peak of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, with its peak of 2285 meters, and the mountainous chain of Serra di Rocca Chiarano, at 2171 meters. These mountains are still used by shepherds for pasturing, a fact which incourages the presence of the bear and the wolf in the area. Flora has not an easy life here, due to the structure of the mountains. However some very rare species of plants can be found at lower altitudes: Androsace villosa, Cerastium tomentosum, Daphne mezereum, Anemone narcissiflora, Gentiana ciliata, Gentiana verna.
