Abruzzo nature reserve Monte Rotondo and Popoli

The reserve, founded in 1982, comprises the municipalities of Bussi, Castiglione a Casauria, Corfinio, Popoli and Tocco da Casauria. It is included within the borders of the National Park of the Majella and partially in those of the National Park of Gran Sasso-Laga. Altitude is from 230 up to 1731 meters above sea-level and its extension is over 1450 hectares.

The flora offers specimens of ilex, bay oak and beech. In an area called "La Fossa" you can admire very big white fir-trees and red fir-trees. Elsewhere we can find the Aleppo pine, the Maritime pine, the cedar, the cypress and the Arizona cypress.

The fauna is extremely rich: the wolf and the bear are the hosts, with the wildcats and the marten too.

The reserve is open to the public from 9.00 to 13.00 hrs.
