Abruzzo nature SIC (Common Interest Site) Monte Genzana in Castel di Sangro This area is very important due to the fact that it connects the National Park of Majella with the external part of the National Park of Abruzzo Lazio and Molise, thus offering a natural corridor to the brown bear of marsica (ursus arctos marsicanus) and the wolf (canis lupus). The territory is mostly mountainous, with an altitude between 600 and 2200 meters above sea-level, and has a rich variety of flora and fauna. On the hills here we find woods with bay oaks and hornbeams, going higher we find beech-woods, yews and maples, to the top we can admire sub-alpine shrubs and alpine grasslands. Together with above mentioned brown bear and wolf, the area is home to the deer, roe-deer, wild-boar, fox, beech-marten, marten and dormouse. Among the birds we find here the eagle, the hawk, the buzzard, the greek partridge, the red woodpecker.
